The Microsoft 365 License Map
This mind map drill down each Microsoft component available in the Microsoft 365 eco-system.
Inspired from the Microsoft 365 E3 and E5 comparison site, it became very clear very quickly it can be a mind field to determine what is available with each SKU, what is available as an add-on, and what limitations there might be with each SKU!
It can also be a head scratch to work out what license is right for each use case.
We all know Microsoft will want all your users on Microsoft 365 E5 with all the bells and whistles attributed with it, but that’s not the right SKU for all use cases. In most environments you come across the need for multiple bundles, dependant on work area, role, etc., etc.
This mind map should allow you to easily drill down to specific capabilities within a product SKU, understand what you get, and compare with other SKUs.
Navigation
The map is broken down by:
- Work area (information worker, frontline worker, and add-ons, for example Teams)
- Product SKU (for example, Microsoft 365 E3)
- Capability (for example, Data Loss Prevention)
- Notes (Pre-requisites, other considerations, limitations)
Example
Let’s look at the following example. Microsoft 365 E3 includes eDiscovery standard, but the client needs eDiscovery premium. We can see by drilling down to Microsoft 365 E5 Compliance you get eDiscovery premium as part of this add-on.
